Getting started

What to do:
1. Register.
2. Log in.
3. Post in the Support forum stating that you consent to all of the content in the Rules and Information forum, and that you understand and are aware of the information therein. Then I may make you a member, at which time you may begin to post in most forums. This step is to filter out the spambots and those who would cause problems by being offended by the rules. If you just want to subscribe to threads or vote on polls, you don't have to become a full member.

Tips and information:
• When uploading images the normal way, I recommend choosing Big Size, but you can pick.
• In order to upload multiple images at once you can upload them to a third party service, like imgbb.com (the IBB button takes you there) and paste the html into your post.
• Manually subscribe to threads where you want email notification. I don't think posting a thread or replying to one automatically subscribes you. Alternatively, you can subscribe to all threads in a specific forum (individual emails or as a digest).
• Some HTML tags work in posts. BBCode does not.
• Some websites have Recent Threads and Recent Posts links. Ours does not. Use Topics View, atom feeds, and/or email subscriptions instead.

How many of you cut up one or more bananas into your cold cereal?

Do you ever eat bananas with your cereal?

I'm not growing this, this year, but I'd like to some day, when I have seeds, perhaps. In the meantime, I really like the Santo domingo types.

Here's a link about the Tohono O'odham Yellow-Meated watermelon:

I wonder if there's a red or pink-fleshed breed.

I'm quite impressed with all three Santo Domingo watermelon types, sonfar, this year. They each mature at different times. Santo domingo winter is the smallest. The other two get pretty large for winter watermelons, actually, and grow large for any watermelon type, so far, in my garden.

I've tasted the two earliest kinds, which are quite good. Santo Domingo Winter should be refrigerated before eating, IMO, however.

Here are the individual threads about them:
* Santo Domingo Winter
* Santo Domingo Dark Green
* Santo Domingo Brown Seeded

I got all my seeds from Native Seeds:
* Santo Domingo Winter
* Santo Domingo Dark Green
* Santo Domingo Brown Seeded

This thread is regarding the Santo Domingo Brown Seeded watermelon. For information about all three Santo Domingo watermelon breeds, see this link.

The first fruit on the plant is ripening. It's probably ripe already, but I want to give it another day or so, just in case. The tendril is pretty much shriveled. It could be shriveled a touch more; so, that's why I want to leave it on a little more.

I grew one of these last year, and it did quite well. Great taste (a favorite, in fact, right after Aji Fulce 1). About as hot as Cayenne (it's not a Habanero). It's prolific, and the earliest C. baccatum I've grown. Easiest to grow, too. Large plant (but leaves aren't large and stems aren't thick). Does well in containers (one plant in a 10 gallon, and two plants in an 18-gallon; I haven't tried other configurations). Would probably do well in the ground, but haven't tried it.

I'm growing four plants this year. Three are doing excellently. The other one is small and not doing much. Maybe it was a cross.

Costa Rican is doing decently, now. Not the earliest pepper, but it is becoming prolific.

I'm impressed with the Chipotle pepper. It's vigorous, prolific and early. I tried a partially red one today and it was extremely sweet. Even the spiciness tasted sweet. It was weird, but great.

The fruits look just like Jalapenos, but they don't taste like them. They taste more like a mildly spicy Jimmy Nardello Italian peppers with thicker and juicier walls.

Here's today's harvest of Ancho San Luis peppers. They're smaller than I thought Poblanos were supposed to be.

This has been a favorite variety, this year. The fruits are fairly round and meaty (though they can get soft when ripened well). The plant is productive and not enormous. If you want a lot of salad-sized tomatoes in a small space, this would be a good variety. Fruits began ripening fairly early. It tastes good, but it's not my personal favorite (I can see how others might favor it, though).

I got one fruit that was a lot bigger than the others. It had lots of locules. I plan to grow it next year to see if it was a sport.
