Ingredients: * 1 long Kikinda Competition Strain edible gourd (at least a couple inches in diameter), sliced * The equivalent of about five medium-sized tomatoes, cut up * Lots of summer savory, both leaves and stalks (if you don't think it's too much, it's probably not enough) * Parsley ...read more

Here's a recipe I used, which I liked (it tastes awesome and is great on burritos in place of salsa): ~1 gallon of blended up raw peppers (mostly Jalapenos); I added a little filtered water to help blend them (but you might want to use some of the vinegar below instead) 3 cups of dis...read more

My mom makes very frittata-like omelets. We call them omelets, anyhow. I decided to try to make one today, for the first time. I don't know exactly how she does it, but I guessed to fill in the gaps, and I think I'm right, because it turned out well. Yes, I used ingredients my mom wouldn't have,...read more

The turban melon split open, probably a while ago by the look of it. I started fermenting the seeds and used the rest to enrich soil, since it seemed unsafe to eat. I'm fermenting the seeds since they have a whole lot of gel. Since that trait seems recessive my plant probably isn't a cross (unle...read more

Here's a picture of our largest watermelon to date, this season (I'm guessing it's 17lbs; there are some potential contenders). It's not huge, but it's large for our garden. It has pink flesh and black seeds. It may, or may not, have a winter watermelon in its ancestry. This was one of the fi...read more

I grew Honeycomb F1 last year and saved the seeds (at least one of which got cross-pollinated by Torpeda). I grew the cross-pollinated seed this year, and it grew these two fine fruits, which were quite striped earlier in the season. They slipped from the vine when ripe, surprisingly. I don't re...read more

I grew Matina in 2016 (from seeds from timeless-tomatoes.com), 2017 (from seeds saved in 2016), and 2019 (from seeds from timeless-tomatoes.com). In 2016, the plant was watered a lot. It was very early and prolific. Many people favored this tomato. It was mildly tangy. The plant was caged. It...read more

I've been growing Mountain Princess every year since 2016 (from seeds freshly saved the previous year each year, except 2016, when I used seeds from timeless-tomatoes.com). Anyway, this year, the fruit is about as large as it was in 2016 (when it was watered heavily, although this year it was...read more

So, I found some Epazote seeds at tradewindsfruit.com and grew a plant, this year. It took a while to get started, but wow! It really seems to make beans feel nutritious (normally, beans don't make me feel extremely nourished, but I tried some black beans and ham with epazote and Mexican sour cr...read more

Those who grow wonderberries might appreciate this (religious) video, entitled Flecks of Gold, at harvest time: https://youtu.be/fEfg-Z-TOc8 "The patient accumulation of these little flecks has brought me great wealth." I spent about an hour or so harvesting all our ripe wonderb...read more

I'm growing seeds that I was told were Charley's Pride. However the fruits didn't match the description—but I think that may just be because the plants are struggling with the growing conditions. The fruits are undersized, and not all of them are striped. They should be quite large and striped. ...read more

Someone should breed early kiwano varieties. If any exist already, please let us know.

I harvested a Santo Domingo Winter watermelon the other day. It tasted similar as before, but it wasn't refrigerated this time. Refrigerating it is de...read more

Our West India burr gherkins are fruiting strongly, now. I should pickle some next week. The bushier plants have more prickly fruit than the flat plants.

We have two fruits on our plant now. One is larger. The plant is looking good. The initial fruit that I thought set a while back didn't keep growing.

It blooms blue in the morning. The flowers turn white within a few hours. The flowers are not usually visible in the afternoon/evening or so.

A large number of my Moravsky Div tomatoes have BER. Kind of disappointed. I should probably amend the soil for next year. heirloom_tomato

This tasted phenomenal. The initial taste was like a good cantaloupe. Then like a second later, a whole new taste shockingly burst into my mouth powerfully! It's hard to describe, but it was very unique. It was sweet and good. It was savory, too. Definitely a melon I'd recommend. Fairly early, t...read more

Here's the second fruit of the Noir de Carmes volunteer that I harvested. The first was bigger. I harvested two tiny ones, today. The pictured fruit was very good. The first one tasted a lot like standard cantaloupe, but over-ripe. The tiny ones were not very sweet.

Here's a Nodak Early tomato (it might be a cross as the plant was much larger than last year's, and larger than another plant this year). The fruits are much smaller than last year. heirloom_tomato

Here are pictures of some Rio Grande tomatoes I harvested on 3 Aug 2019. They were remarkably red (redder than they appear in the pictures). Taste was okay, about like Sausage this time of year. Hopefully the taste improves. I saved seeds from each of these individually. heirloom_...read more

Here are some pictures of some Early Girl F1 tomato fruits from a plant purchased at either Walmart or The Home Depot, this spring. I zapped and saved the seeds, and put the fruit in the refrigerator. I used two zappers at once, the whole time. My Z4EX, and I think zapper #6 (30khz). I...read more

I harvested some ripe tomatoes from the F2 Brandy Boy crosses, today. The one from plant B (which is potato leaf) was large and heavily catfaced with some zippering. The one from plant D (which is regular leaf) had a mild case of blossom end rot. I ate the fruit from plant D without saving th...read more
